God - Our Healer
It's been almost three years since my mom was fully healed from years of illness. Our hearts were hoping that the full healing would be here on earth but God, in His infinite wisdom, chose to heal her fully by taking her to heaven. Not only is she healed, but she is spending eternity with the God that she loved so deeply.
The last few weeks of her life held excruciatingly hard days for all of us. It also included some of the most beautiful times of experiencing God's presence and God's hand in our lives. The things he did were a reminder that God is always (ALWAYS) with us and that He is always (ALWAYS) working. He showed up as comforter, provider, peace, and healer.
During those weeks I had the privilege of spending many days and nights with my mom. Her health was declining faster than we had hoped so she needed a lot of extra care. One particular day she was having a hard time swallowing so she was not able to take all of her medicines including her water pill. Her hospital bed was set up in the living room so at night I slept on the couch only a few feet away. During the night I woke up and noticed mom sitting on the side of the bed. I got up and walked over to check on her and as I got close, I realized she was praying. She was calling out to her heavenly Father, begging Him to take away some of the intense pain she was feeling. Her heart was failing, so fluid was building up in her body. The edema was settling in her belly and legs so her legs were much bigger than normal and were so full that her skin was tight and the pain was intense. When she realized I was there, she asked me to sit down and pray with her. We had a beautiful time together talking to God and asking Him to do for her what seemed like a miracle. After we prayed we talked for a while and then I helped her get settled back in bed and we both slept. Neither of us realized what God was about to do for her.
In the morning I woke up and quietly started to head out of the living room. As I did, Mom called me over to talk. She was eager to share what God had done. She explained that while she was sleeping, God sent an angel to help. The angel did something in her abdomen and in her legs. I don't know how she knew it was an angel but she did. Then, she pulled back the sheet and showed me her legs. The water was gone and the pain was gone. They were down to normal size! The swelling in her abdomen was also gone. It was amazing. God had answered our prayers in a miraculous way.
Psalm 91:11 tells us, "He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways."
Hebrews 1:14 says, "Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?"
Mark 10:52 shares, " 'Go,' said Jesus, 'your faith has healed you.' Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road."
And Psalm 107:20 exclaims, "He sent out His word and healed them; He rescued them from the grave."
God, our Healer, chose to answer our prayer. He cared enough to work on her behalf. He showed Himself as a God who is all powerful and a God who listens and answers prayer. He brought her relief.
This is only one of the amazing ways God showed Himself present and powerful in the hardest time of life. It is one of the things I can recall when life is tough or the situation in front of me seems impossible. My God can do anything. He still has the same power that He had when He raised Jesus from the dead 2,000 years ago.
So friend, I don't know what you are facing today. It could be a physical battle. Maybe it's emotional or relational. What I do know is that God is powerful enough to heal anything that comes your way. Remember that. Trust Him. Call on Him. Never underestimate what God can do for you.
"Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise." Jeremiah 17:14
